English artist who is well known for his superb railway and steam locomotive paintings. Chris Woods was born in Winchester. His portrayal of the classic steam engines set in wonderful British landscapes are among the best available and many of these fine paintings have been reproduced by a number of publishers over the years. Sadly he died in 2009. |

Pastimes by Chris Woods. An S.R. Merchant Navy Class Pacific No.21C9 Shaw Savill at the head of a westbound express in Devon bound for Exeter, c.1947. This locomotive was originally built in 1942 and then rebuilt in 1957 - it was withdrawn from service in 1964. As of 2019 the locomotive still exists and is due to be restored. |
