Bucentaure by Ivan Berryman. (P)

Built at Toulon in 1803, Bucentaure was the flagship of Admiral Villeneuve at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805 and the first to be almost completely disabled by a massive broadside from HMS Victory as Nelson broke through the enemy line. Bucentaure was taken as a prize by the British fleet, but was lost in the great storm that followed the battle.

HMS Invincible by Randall Wilson (P)

Malta Relief by Tim Fisher. (P)

Hawker Hurricanes of 249 squadron (RAF) departing off HMS Ark Royal in June 1941 as par tof Force H. The Hurricanes were to become part of the Defence of Malta against the onslought and non stop bombing by the Axis Bombers and HMS Ark Royal would be sunk only a few months later when on the 13th November 1941 HMS Ark Royal was hit by a single torpedo from the German U-boat U81. The torpedo hit on the starboard side near the starboard boiler room causing a 130ft by 30ft hole. Water poured in causing a 10% list immediately. The flooding spread quickly to the middle of the ship and then to the port boiler room, eectric power failed, and after 14 hours while in tow to Gibraltar she capsized and sunk the following day.

The Last Highland Charge by Richard Moore. (P)

On the 16th April 1746, the Jacobites mounted their last Highland Charge. Wet, hungry and weary, the Jacobites charged into the guns and bayonets of the Duke of Cumberlands army. Raked with cannon fire, rifle shot and grapeshot the survivors closed in. This painting shows the charge as the Redcoats would have seen it, and features Jacobites from the left wing, the Atholl Brigade, the Camerons and the Stuarts of Appin.

Hit and Run - Tribute to No.144 Squadron by Ivan Berryman. (P)

The Beaufighters of No.144 Sqn wrought havoc on Axis shipping in the North Sea from their base at Dallachy in Scotland during 1944-45. Here, Mk X NT961 (PL-O) has singled out a lone vessel and dealt it the full salvo of rockets and machine gun fire.

Lucky 13 by Ivan Berryman. (P)

Godwin von Brumowski's 13th victory against an Italian Macchi seaplane over Grado, in northern Italy.

Alpini by David Pentland. (P)

Raising the Standard at Glenfinnan, by Mark Churms. (P)

Supported by the Highland Chiefs with twelve hundred highlanders present. Prince Charles Edward Stuart raised his standard at Glenfinnan on the 19th August 1745. This was the start of the Forty Five which would end with the defeat of the Jacobite Army on Drumossie Moor at the battle of Culloden 16th April 1746.

Red Tails by Ivan Berryman. (P)

Often described as the most effective fighter escorts in the US Army Air Force, the famous red-tailed Tuskegee airmen could proudly boast that they never lost a single bomber to enemy fighters in all the missions flown. Nearest aircraft here is the P51C of Lt. Lee A Archer Jr, who finished the war with four confirmed victories and one shared. His personal aircraft was named Ina the Macon Belle after his wife.

HMS Victory by Randall Wilson. (P)

As Admiral Nelsons flagship leads the British fleet toward the Franco-Spanish line, Captain Harveys Temeraire tries to pass Victory in order to be the first to break the enemy column.

Tribute to Lt. James Meissner by Ivan Berryman. (P)

Joining the 94th Pursuit Squadron in France in March 1918, James Meissner scored a total of 8 victories between May and October of that year. Shown here in his Nieuport 28, he scored 4 of his victories flying this aircraft before taking over command of 147th Pursuit Squadron flying a Spad S.XIII in July and scoring his final 4 victories. He died of pneumonia in 1936 but had top American flying Ace Eddie Rickenbacker as a pallbearer, a former colleague from the 94th Pursuit Squadron.

The Battle of Manila Bay by Anthony Saunders (P)

A splendid little war was how John Hay, ambassador to Britain, described the Spanish-American war of 1898. Though the war was small in scope it was large in consequences; it promoted the regeneration of the American Navy and the emergence of the United States as a major world power. Fought primarily at sea, the war created an American naval legend in its opening encounter between the pacific squadrons of Spain and the United States at Manila Bay on the 1st of May 1898. At sunrise Admiral Dewey, leading the American fleet in his flagship the USS Olympia, had caught the Spanish fleet, under Admiral Patricio Montojo, by surprise - still anchored off Sangley Point at Manila Bay in the Philippine Islands. Defeat for the Spanish was total and heralded the end of a once extensive Spanish empire in the Americas. Montojos flagship, Reina Cristina, is seen here under fire from the Olympia.

Yankie Station by Randall Wilson (P)

CVN 65 USS Enterprise on her first deployment in the Gulf of Tonkin. On this day she flew 165 sorties, a carrier record! Two A4 Skyhawks head towards a bombing mission while an F4 phantom rides escort.

Raid on Pebble Island, Falkland Islands, 1982 by David Pentland. (P)

D squadron 22 SAS, made their way to the Argentinian landing strip where they proceeded to destroy 11 enemy aircraft with demolition charges, 66mm rockets and small arms. The destruction of these enemy aircraft, among them Paccaras, most certainly saved many lives among the Task Force and proved a valuable morale booster at the same time.

Deadly Combo by Ivan Berryman. (P)

Equipped with the Henschel Hs.293 guided bomb, the Dornier Do.217s of KG 40 and KG 100 represented a new and significant threat to Allied shipping. The first such victims were the sloop HMS Egret and the destroyer HCMS Athabaskan, both in the Bay of Biscay in August 1943. Although crude and needing to be guided to their target by an operator in the launch aircraft, the Hs.293s introduced a new breed of air-launched weapon to modern warfare, a concept that is still in use to this day.
