Walther Nehring

Walther Nehring was a German General born on 15th August 1892, and joining the army in September 1911. Commissioned during the first world war, he went on to become a General, taking command of the Afrika Korps in May 1942. He subsequently went to the eastern front commanding the XXIV Panzer Corps. He was awarded the Knights Cross on 24th July 1941, the Oak Leaves on 8th February 1944, and the Swords on 22nd January 1945. He died on 20th Arpil 1983.

Signed letter from Knights Cross winner Walther Nehring, dated 23rd July 1977.

This letter is one of over 600 from a collection obtained by Mr Klaus Morent of Wangen, Germany, who was in contact with many Knights Cross holders in the late 1970s - early 1980s.
