Wing Commander Edward Howell OBE DFC
He was Officer Commanding No.23 Sqn when severely wounded and taken prisoner during the Battle of Crete. He was transferred to Kokkinia near Athens and then to Dulag 183 in Salonika. Despite having lost the use of both arms he escaped from the prison hopsital and walked 100 miles to Chalkidiki. From there he was taken by fishing boat from Ay Nicola to Imbros in Turkey from where he was repatriated. He died on 4th August 2000.

Clipped Signature - Edward Howell. Officer Commanding No.23 Sqn when severely wounded and taken prisoner during the Battle of Crete. Transferred to Kokkinia near Athens and then to Dulag 183 in Salonika. Despite having lost the use of both arms he escaped from the prison hopsital and walked 100 miles to Chalkidiki, was taken to Turkey and repatriated. He died in 2000.
